Letter to Daniel H. Miller [manuscript], 1808 December 24.

Wilson writes about his trip into the South to obtain subscribers for his "American Ornithology." He mentions the variety of characters he encountered, the wretched conditions of slaves along his journey, and his visit with Thomas Jefferson at the White House who gave him a letter of introduction to a gentleman in Virginia acquainted with a [former slave?] who had spent his whole life studying the habits of birds.
